Attention to detail gives the Logan cottage home its Craftsman charm. Tapered columns on stone bases frame a generous front porch with a picket railing. Stone continues with a wainscot that wraps around the front bedroom. Most of the house has horizontal lap siding, but board and batten siding at the garage and around the right side extension add visual interest. Gable end walls are accented with shingles and millwork brackets. Window and door casings with lintels, and prominent trim bands complete the Craftsman look. Careful space planning allows this house to live large in its 1063 sq. ft. There are three bedrooms and two baths along with a nicely appointed galley kitchen and dining area and a comfortable living room. A separate laundry closet and a kitchen pantry are important to daily living. A single car garage opens to a rear alley.

This house was built by Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, Bend, Oregon. Thoughtful design allows it to fit right into its neighborhood while still being “affordable housing.” Best of all, this house achieved Net Zero from Pacific Northwest’s Earth Advantage Program, with solar panels providing the energy and high performance construction providing a tightly sealed thermal envelope. This accomplishment demonstrates that optimum energy efficiency can be reached in affordable housing, whether Net Zero Ready or Net Zero.
Following the recommendations in the Logan plan set, you too can build a high-performance, energy-efficient home.
